In July 2023 and April 2024, the team traveled to the University of South Florida to perform challenge experiments on Diadema setosum with collaborators from USF, USGS, and the Netherlands. We performed 2 experiments; the first to test how DaScPc recruited to coral surfaces, and how it re-emerged from these to infect Diadema, and the second to assess how DaScPc impacted other species. These experiments ultimately informed that DaScPc does indeed recruit to coral surfaces, but the question remains whether those can then go on to infect Diadema spp. in the wild.
